About Vialii

Vialii can trace its roots back to 2006 when the maintenance business was first launched by Michael. By the following year the design and landscaping business was established by Michael and Jill and both businesses quickly grew a reputation for being trusted, reliable and offering highly skilled services. In 2019 the two businesses merged to become Vialii Gardens – a one stop shop offering garden maintenance as well as good quality garden design which could then be built by the same company, ensuring the garden remains true to the vision.

We are keen organic gardeners and care about the environment and nature and, where possible, incorporate these aspects into our work, whether it’s using local materials, plants which attract wildlife or encouraging pesticide-free practises.

Vialii Gardens

Vialii have designed and built a wide array of gardens from large sprawling gardens in the country to modest back yards in the suburbs as well as several community gardens including Provost’s Park in Bridge of Allan. The maintenance teams care for a large portfolio of gardens around Central Scotland from large estates to small lawns. Michael and Jill married in their own garden in September 2010 and their daughters Lulu and Tilda “joined” the family business soon after.  The name “Vialii” comes from one of their favourite flowers – Primula vialii.

Michael Burt

Michael’s background is as a Structural Engineer but he decided to take the leap into running his own business in 2006. Already a keen gardener, Michael decided to make his hobby a full time business and launched a garden maintenance business which quickly became an established and trusted brand providing garden maintenance throughout the central belt. With his structural background, eye for design and hard landscaping skills a move into garden design and landscaping was an obvious expansion for the business. Michael is a keen organic gardener and loves pottering about their veg patch and is a member of the RHS.

Jill Burt MA, Dip Garden Design

Jill worked in Retail for over 17 years as a buyer before having Lulu in 2012 and deciding to join the family business. Jill works closely with Michael on all designs, meeting clients and developing concepts whilst juggling the many balls necessary in keeping a business and family running smoothly! Her love of plants suits pulling planting plans together and creating plant care sheets for clients. Jill is a Friend of the Society of Garden Designers. Jill’s favourite time of year is May when the sun is (hopefully) starting to warm the garden, plants are bursting into life and the Chelsea Flower Show inspires us all.

Lulu Burt

From a very early age, Lulu has shown a keen interest in gardens and wildlife. She regularly helps out with all tasks involved in keeping her garden tidy as well as harvesting and sampling many of the wide range of fruit and veg grown there. She is often found in the mud kitchen with her sister creating culinary delights! Lulu’s favourite gardens include the botanic gardens at Logan, the Garden of Southern Hemisphere and Glenwhan Gardens.

Lulu and Tilda often helps contribute to our blog with nature based crafts, projects and fun ideas for the garden.

Tilda Burt

Like her sister, Tilda has no choice but to love gardens. She loves helping in the productive garden as well as climbing trees and plotting in her garden den. Her favourite gardens so far include Alnwick Gardens, Drummond Castle Gardens and Levens Hall Gardens. Tilda suggests that all gardens have a bubble machine included in their garden design.
