The last two years have taken their toll and we are all hoping for a happier and healthier 2022. And what better way to do that for your physical and mental heath than to get out into the garden. Now’s the time for a fresh new start so we have collated the top new garden trends for 2022 to help you get your garden get a new look too…
Stone walls are very much on trend and can be incorporated into any garden. Whether you need a new boundary, you want to add some “rooms” within your garden or you want a new garden feature like a raised bed or seat, stone walling is a lovely, natural material to use.
As we all consider the environment more, our thoughts turn to how we can be environmentally friendly in our gardens. Wild gardens will be very much on trend in 2022. If you have a large garden then leave a corner over to go wild with wildlife friendly planting, leaf and log piles, a pond and wildflowers. Planting specific wildlife friendly plants in any garden will make a big difference and encourage bees and insects to hang out in your garden.
As we continue to work from home a lot more, look at ways to be healthier and reduce our reliance on supermarkets, veg gardens will continue to be popular in 2022. If you can’t find space for veg beds then just incorporate veg into your borders and hanging baskets for the perfect combination planting.
Hot tubs continue to be hugely popular in 2022 as we fully embrace spending time in our gardens. Creating outdoor rooms where you can enjoy hot tubs with some privacy will be popular and there is a plethora of decorative screens and sails which can allow you to use your outdoor space without fear of being overlooked.
Lush and leafy is a big trend for 2022. We saw lots of ferns, ornamental grasses and evergreens at last year’s Chelsea Flower Show which will then translate into our own gardens this year. And they are low maintenance too, bonus!
The pantone colour of the year is Very Peri and is perfect for gardens! From echinops and eryngium to salvia and festuca, there are lots of silvery blue plants to keep your garden on trend in 2022!
We predict the glamorous dahlia to be the plant of the year in 2022. In its huge array of jewel colours and kaleidoscopic shapes, there is no other plant which is quite so Insta ready!
Whatever you do in your garden in 2022, just take time to relax and enjoy.
