A Sunny Front Garden

Our clients had a high maintenance front garden filled with lots of overgrown shrubs. The existing patio was difficult to access and had become overgrown. As it was a sunny front garden, the clients wanted to use this space for dining and relaxing. The brief was to create a low maintenance garden which was easy to access and easy to maintain whilst still having lovely planting. There was also the sloping aspect to deal with too…

We removed almost all of the existing shrubs and trees from the garden which had past their best. We kept the client’s beautiful acer and a lovely ceanothus. A new golden sandstone patio was created with lovely curving shapes and edged in setts. A new path leads to the front door as well as access to the driveway. The level difference was resolved by adding a beautiful timber sleeper retaining wall. By building it vertically it meant we could curve it to tie in with the curves of the patio. More sleepers were used to create curving raised beds, filled with lavender and providing lovely scent as the clients relax nearby. A decorative gravel was used to create a low maintenance finish and a beautiful range of azaleas were planted along with other shrubs such as hebe, hydrangea, spiraea and viburnum. The existing fence was painted dark grey to give it a fresh new look and to be a lovely backdrop against the new planting.
