The Garden Room

Our clients’ had created a wonderful home in their interior of their new house and wanted a garden to match. As with many new builds all that existed was some turf – apart from the wonderful view of Wallace Monument. Our clients wanted a modern garden with wow factor, somewhere to sit outside even in inclement weather, greater privacy and different seating areas around the garden.

"Well I think "wow" is a good starting point! The garden looks terrific and the plants catching the sun and blowing in the wind are fab."

Before: just lawn and single slatted fence

The build is being phased with Phase 1 now complete. This included double slatting the existing fence to give greater privacy as well as staining it a darker colour for a better back drop to planting. The new garden room was an important feature and provides a large room which is fully insulated, has electrics, laminate flooring and double glazing giving our clients a room which they can enjoy all year round.

Phase 1 has seen two of the three patios completed. A small morning patio provides space for a bistro set to enjoy an alfresco coffee before the day begins. The evening patio catches the sun from the afternoon ’til sunset and is perfect for evening drinks. The main patio will be constructed in phase 2 and incorporates curving rendered troughs with in-built seating as well as a timber screen feature. The patios are all constructed in beautiful heather coloured sandstone with vintage style brick edging.

The planting is a beautifully soft mix of trees, shrubs and herbaceous. Weeping cherries create symmetry in the far border and are complemented with Prunus serrula and an acer. Feature shrubs include corrylus contorta, prunus incisa ‘Kojo-mo-mai’, and hydrangea ‘Black Diamond’. Astrantia ‘Pink Pride’, hosta, heuchera and euphorbia add to the colour and texture of the planting.
