Happy New Year!
Hopefully lots of you have made New Years Resolutions involving getting out into your gardens more! It’s a great way of keeping the body and mind healthy as well as keeping your outdoor space looking its best. But do you know what the big trends are in gardens for 2025? Nope, well here’s what you need to know regarding the garden trends for 2025…
The 2025 colour of the year made us smile as it’s a colour already in most gardens that have soil or wood – it’s brown!! Or mocha mousse if you want to be fancy! To be fair, it’s a lovely shade of brown and we can definitely see lovely pots in these colours looking great or painting your fence this shade as a lovely alternative to the natural wood. Outdoor rugs and cushions incorporating mocha mousse would also be lovely. It’s an easy way to change things up, keeping on trend and not having to reinvent your outdoor space. Alternatively just eat a mocha mousse in your garden, job done!
Edible ornamental perennials (and also annuals) will continue to be a big trend for 2025. Gardeners don’t just want their gardens to look pretty, they want to be able to enjoy growing their own food and veg but without the pressure of a full on veg patch. Plants such as blueberries, chives and fennel which can easily be grown in borders and pots amidst other planting will see an upsurge in 2025.
As we continue to look at the impact on the environment of how we garden, we will be making changes to how we do bedding plants and hanging baskets in 2025. We all know how thirsty our hanging baskets get through summer which isn’t ideal for the environment, so gardeners will look at more robust and less thirsty alternatives to bedding. Plants such as salvias and heathers can create lovely displays but need a lot less attention.
We’ve always been huge advocates for a lovely front garden and 2025 will see this trend come to the fore. It’s the first thing we see when we return home, it’s the first impression people have of our homes and its also really useful space which should be utilised to its fullest potential. Perhaps it’s a sunny spot where you want to sit. Perhaps you want to grown some veggies and this is the perfect space for a raised bed or two. Or you might just want a lovely looking space that makes you smile every time you come home. Whatever you want, make the most of this important space and give us a call if you need some ideas helping design your front garden. Here’s are links to some of the front gardens we have designed in recent times:
We hate calling this a trend as it makes it sound much less important than it is, but embracing biodiversity is something all of us must do more of in 2025. Making small changes can make a big difference. We’ve already talked about changing bedding plants for more robust planting. Look at what other plants you can add to your garden which attract pollinators and also flower for a much longer period. Adding bulbs is a cheap way to garden and plants such as crocus and allium are great for attracting insects as well as perennials such as echinacea, sedums, eryngium and geranium. Opt for native and drought resistant plants too to improve your environmental prowess.
Creating your own cutting garden is another trend for 2025 and is a fabulous way to reduce buying bunches of flowers for your home which are often an environmental nightmare. Gladioli, shasta daisies, dahlias, lupins and asters are among the many beautiful plants which are great as cut flowers. If you don’t have the space or time to create your own cutting garden and are local, we highly recommend getting in touch with The Wee Flower Patch in Bridge of Allan who create beautiful, hand-made seasonal bouquets.
Hopefully our blog will help inspire you to do some fabulous things in your own garden in 2025. Enjoy!
